About

Adolfo Arranz is a Spanish graphic artist based in Hong Kong who focuses on infographics and media illustration. 

He graduated in 1991 as a specialist in illustration at the School of Arts in his hometown, Valladolid, Spain.

Before arriving in Asia, he worked at El Mundo newspaper in Spain for several years, where he was introduced to the infographics world.

He is a Senior Graphics Editor at Reuters and has been Deputy and then Creative Director at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and Mediacorp in Singapore. 

His work has been recognised with prestigious international awards, obtaining over 150 distinctions.

Among those awards, he got four gold medals at the Malofiej Awards, a gold in the Society for News Design; twice the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists of the USA —an award shared with the SCMP graphics team—; a PRINT Award, Pencil Wood Award, three golds in Wan-Ifra, and won four times the best design category in the Hong Kong News Awards.

In his spare time, he also likes to develop artistic activities and is enthusiastic about exploring the world by drawing and sketching on location from observation. 

He has also collaborated with prestigious media such as Science magazine, National Geographic and Hopkins Bloomberg Public Health Magazine


He has been invited to give talks and workshops on illustration and infographics at various institutions and events, including Malofiej, SND, Infographic IC in the Netherlands, the Korea Press Foundation, Wan-Ifra in Kuala Lumpur, the Korea Creative Content Agency in Seoul, DCJ Conference Indonesia 2022, Infovis in Mexico.


He has also been a jury member at the Malofiej, the SND-The Best of News Awards, and since 2017, he has been part of the jury panel of the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA).


His work has been highlighted in several publications and books by prestigious publishers like Gestalten, Taschen, Phaidon, Watermark, dpi magazine, iDN magazine, and Idea magazine in Japan.
